Our team at Tilly loves the holidays, from dressing up our homes to extra family time - and the most rewarding part: giving. This season we spent a lot of time reflecting on how to show our sincere appreciation to our clients, but struggled to do so without negatively impacting our planet.

When we founded Tilly, it was important to us to limit our environmental footprint as much as possible, doing what we can to remain carbon neutral. We love that our online service model eliminates driving to and from appointments, doesn’t require paper, and that our designs incorporate native and sustainable materials whenever and wherever possible.

Sending a card or gift - using paper, delivery trucks, airplanes, and many other resources seemed contradictory to our core values.

We then remembered an amazing organization we have admired from afar, One Tree Planted, a nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation. Their mission is to restore critical forests around the world, one tree at a time. It's that simple.

Therefore, we decided to plant a tree for every customer since our launch in February 2019. To us there was no better way to show our appreciation than to make a positive impact towards our future and future generations to come. We feel privileged to be able to partner with such an incredible organization and plan to supports similar initiatives in all our years to come.

One Tree Planted also raises awareness about the importance of trees, offering businesses like ours a simple sustainability solution, and motivates younger generations to do something positive for the environment. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's land-based species. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines (that aspirin you may take after New Years Eve - made from tree bark!). After speaking with One Tree Planted further - we learned how much more we all rely on trees than we ever imagined (and we always imagined it was a lot), check out their blog post on Why Plant Trees if you’re curious.

So, in the last few days of the holiday shuffle… when you’re maybe feeling frantic… if you’re still searching for a gift for “that person who has everything”... the person who “is so hard to shop for”... consider something unique, like planting a tree - a gift that truly does keep on giving!
