Popular Plants in Atlanta

Your landscape designer will have a deep understanding of what plants work in Atlanta. Tilly encourages homeowner’s to focus on native plants that create a sustainable design. Some of our favorite Atlanta options include:

Wild Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata)

This climbing vine with dramatic blooms works well in full sun to part shade. A great choice to include in a pollinator garden, Wild Passion Flower can be a breathtaking addition to fence lines and pergolas.

Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)

As its name states, this is a must-have for pollinator gardens. This sun-loving perennial has deep green leaves that are highlighted by a pop of yellow-orange clusters of blooms that last into late summer.

Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis)

This shade loving perennial gets its name from the intricate shape of the deep red blooms. A great low maintenance option for a woodland garden, Bleeding Heart also makes a great addition to a cutting garden.

Scentless Mock Orange (Philadelphus inodorus)

A medium sized shade loving woodland shrub, this plant has a graceful form that is punctuated with delicate white blooms. This is a fairly low maintenance and adaptable addition for a flowering hedge or foundation planting.

Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum biflorum)

The graceful arching form and delicate white blooms make this native perennial a great addition to a woodland garden. Working well as both a specimen plant and grouped together en masse, the bright green foliage will last throughout the summer.

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)

This native woodland shrub is generally known to enjoy more damp conditions, but can actually be fairly drought tolerant once established. With large deep green leaves and dramatic creamy white blooms, Oakleaf Hydrangeas work well as a specimen within the landscape.

What are popular landscape design trends in Atlanta?

We see a variety of landscape design trends throughout the Atlanta area. From modern, cottage gardens to lush tropical designs, Atlantans have diverse landscape styles depending on the homes’ architectural style and owner’s preferences. One design element that never goes out of style is incorporating sustainable landscape design practices into a yard!

What are Tilly's sustainable landscape design practices in Atlanta?

Native plants and maximizing a yard are always top of mind for Atlanta landscape designs. Tilly encourages using native plants, which help our ecosystem by being primed for the existing environment’s conditions and being a wildlife refuge for birds, bees, butterflies and other essential insects. Water wise plant selections are also key to a successful landscape design no matter where you are.

Tilly also recommends eco-friendly gardening practices. By this we mean using organic materials, no pesticides, not over mowing your lawn, etc.

We feel strongly that incorporating the above sustainable practices help a yard thrive and flourish and keep maintenance lower.

Who will be my landscape designer for my Atlanta project?

Tilly has landscape designers across the country. Homeowners are matched with a landscape designer who has residential Atlanta experience and is familiar with the climate of the area. Each assigned designer understands what plants and material will work in a specific geographical location. You will have an opportunity to share your goals and show your space during your one-on-one video call with your designer.

What comes after the design process?

After you have finished your design, Tilly will send you an estimate for the plants in your landscape design plan. If you choose to move forward with Tilly for plant delivery we will then schedule a curbside delivery at a date and time of your choosing.
